“Interning at John Harrington Photography taught me a great deal. I observed the choices John made at shoots concerning lighting, set up, posing, etc. Besides photography, I learned much about running a business - invoices, billing, insuring, and how to effectively communicate with clients. Overall, the combination of learning about photography and business was very valuable. Even if someone is not interested in photography, I would still recommend an internship with John if for no reason but to learn strong, solid business skills.”

Most Enjoyed:

Going on shoots with John, especially the day on Capitol Hill when I did some shooting of my own from the well of a congressional hearing.

Least Enjoyed:

Typical “office work,” such as putting mini portfolios in the FedEx envelopes and emptying trash. Also, the commute on the Metro.

What I Learned:

How to take a studio portrait or other “straightforward” shot and make it visually interesting. Also, how to work well with clients and how to run a successful and profitable business.
