John is a member of the following professional organizations:


White House News Photographer’s Association (WHNPA) - Since the beginning of the association in 1921, members of the WHNPA have been covering events and activities of major world importance, traveling with presidents, photographing royalty, diplomats, and newsmakers. They have been at the forefront of video and photographic technology, and have recorded some of the world’s great moments.

American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) - ASMP promotes photographers’ rights, educates photographers in better business practices, produces business publications for photographers and helps buyers find professional photographers.ASMP was founded in 1944 by a handful of the world’s leading photojournalists and is recognized internationally for its leadership role. ASMP has over 5,000 members, including many of the world’s greatest photographers, in 40 chapters nationwide.


Advertising Photographers of America (APA) - APA’s mission is successful advertising photographers whose goal is to establish, endorse, and promote professional practices, standards, and ethics in the photographic and advertising community. APA seeks to mentor, motivate, educate, and inspire in the pursuit of excellence. Their aim is to champion and speak as one common voice for advertising photographers and image makers to the advertising industry in the United States and the World.


Editorial Photographers (EP) - A non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and profitability of editorial photography, whose mission is to educate photographers and photography buyers about business issues affecting our industry, and in the process raise the level of business practices in the profession.


American Society of Picture Professionals (ASPP) - The American Society of Picture Professionals (ASPP) is a nationwide organization of professionals who produce, sell, edit, catalog and use photographic imagery - a forum for education, information, dialogue, interaction and professional growth.

Art Directors Club of Metropolitian Washington (ADCMW) - The Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington is dedicated to advocating professionalism in the field of visual communications. Formed in 1953, the Club keeps the creative community informed about design and the professional aspects of design, and helps the business community understand the power and value of good design.

National Press Photographer’s Association (NPPA) - The National Press Photographers Association is dedicated to the advancement of photojournalism, its creation, editing and distribution, in all news media.


Professional Digital Imaging Association (PDIA) - The Professional Digital Imaging Association is an independent, member-directed organization that provides practical information and education about various options for preparing, proofing, printing, protecting, finishing, displaying and selling digital images.


National Press Club - The National Press Club, founded in 1908, has been a part of Washington life for more than 90 years. Its members have included 17 consecutive Presidents of the United States—from Theodore Roosevelt to Bill Clinton. The clubs credo, in part, espouses to aid members in distress and to foster the ethical standards of the profession.
